(Arabic for Terraces of Fahil) had the ancient name of Pihilu. It was also the Greco-Roman PELLA. This was one of the original cities of the Decapolis that was named for the birthplace of Alexander the Great in Macedonia. Christians from Jerusalem fled here during the First Jewish Revolt AD 66-70. It later  was the see of a Byzantine Bishop. In Islamic times it was totally abandoned leaving for today nicely preserved ruins.
