(AJLOUN -Maybe named for Eglon, king of the Moabites) is a small town with a lovely castle (called Qalat Ar Rabadth -Castle of the Rabadth Family) on one of the highest points in Jordan. The castle has the Byzantine foundations of a Christian monastery. It was built during the Crusader times and rebuilt by Izzidin Usama in 1185 for Saladin. The town was famous for its market in Islamic times. It was also the chief town of the northern Trans-Jordan area in Turkish times and early Jordanian history.
