Is spoken of in (Numbers 20:17, 21:22). It was also called the Road to Bashan, which was the Northern section of the Highway (Numbers 21:33), (Deuteronomy 3:l). The Greco-Roman name was Via Nova Traiana (Trajan’s New Road) which was completed in AD 11 1. It was firmly paved and completely lined with large mile marker stones. During the Byzantine times it was well traveled by traders, soldiers and Christian pilgrims. Today, parts of it can still be seen and many mile markers remain intact.
