Jebal Mar Elias

(Semitic for Mount of Saint Elijah) is the traditional spot where Elijah ascended into heaven (I1 Kings 2). The Byzantine name was Armona. Today there are only abandoned ruins. In the surrounding area once dwelt many hermits imitating the great prophet.
