(MOUNT HOR – means: Hill), Arabic for Mount of Aaron. It is the traditional Muslim spot of Aaron’s burial place Deuteronomy 32:48-50); (Numbers 20:22-28, 21 :4, 33:37-41, 34:7-8). During the Byzantine times, a shrine on the peak of Mount Haroun might have been built as a Christian chapel and received pilgrims. There is an inscription over the doorway of the existing Muslim shrine explaining that it was rebuilt in AD 1495.
