Diban

(DIBON -Semetically means a Highplace). It is cited in the Bible in (Numbers 21 :26-30, 32:3-34, 33:45-46); (Joshua 13:9-17; Nehemiah 1 1 :25). It was prophesied against in (Isaiah 15:2) and (Jeremiah 48:18-22). During Greco-Roman-Byzantine times, there are remains today that verify that it was occupied. Rev. F. A. Klein discovered the Moabite Stone here in 1868. The Moabite or Mesha Stone tells of the battle between Moab and Israel as related in (I1 Kings 3:4-27).
